Spirit Moto Corsa to depart British GP2 at the end of season
NEWS
September 29, 2021, by Spirit Motorcycles

Spirit Moto Corsa will be departing British GP2 at the conclusion of the 2021 season, the team can announce.

After three years of running its own team in the British championship, Spirit Motorcycles is now exploring avenues into running an official team in the FIM CEV European Moto2 Championship for 2022.

The team leaves GP2 having achieved title success with Mason Law in 2020, as well as multiple race victories and a mass of podium finishes so far in 2021.

Two rounds remain this season and the whole team is motivated to end its involvement in the class on a high.

Over the past two years, the backing from Chedington Estate (and its associated brands Moto Corsa Motorcycles and Superior Motorcycle Experiences) has been crucial to the team’s success.

Spirit Motorcycles is extremely happy that the partnership will continue going forward.

Dr Geoffrey Guy, Owner of Chedington Estate, said:

Dr Geoffrey Guy (centre) joined the team on the grid at Thruxton earlier this season

“Chedington is delighted by the incredible design of the Spirit SP2 and the race success by Spirit Moto Corsa during their involvement in the British championship. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with such talented riders and crew.

“Chedington will continue its journey with Spirit Motorcycles into the European series and beyond.”

Customer Spirit SP2 project

Spirit Moto Corsa’s departure from British GP2 does not mean the end of seeing the Spirit SP2 in the class, as the bike will be made available for customer teams and riders.

In total, Spirit are prepared to sell a maximum of four bikes for next season, with factory support provided to the purchasing competitors.

This is a model which has already worked well for iForce Lloyd & Jones PR Racing rider Dan Jones, who has claimed six podium finishes in the class so far this season.

Dan Jones currently sits fourth in the British GP2 standings this year on the Spirit SP2

The Spirit SP2 is designed and built by former Head of FTR Steve Bones, who has years of experience and success in Grand Prix racing.

Setups have been finely tuned at BSB circuits across the country over the past two years by the Spirit Moto Corsa team.

Mason Law has achieved seven GP2 class victories and twenty podium finishes across his two seasons on the bike.

There has also been five podium finishes for Jamie Perrin this year and the Oulton Park Feature Race saw Spirit SP2s lockout the British GP2 podium for the first time.

In addition to success in class, Law has finished in the overall top three in the British Supersport/GP2 classification at the last two events.

It is therefore both a competitive package for experienced riders to jump on, as well as the perfect motorcycle for young riders who want to develop their skills on a fully adjustable prototype machine.

As well as British GP2, the bike will also still be able to race in the FIM CEV European Moto2 Championship next year, with 600cc Honda engine powered bikes still eligible to race.

Interested parties can get in touch via social media or come and visit the team in the British Superbike paddock at one of the two remaining rounds of the season.

The Spirit Moto Corsa team infrastructure (including the truck, awning etc) is also being put up for sale. More information will be made available on this very shortly.
