Spirit Moto Corsa’s Mason Law and Jamie Perrin made a good start to their second Oulton Park race weekend this season, as they put in strong times on the opening day.
Coming off the back of his second place overall finish at Silverstone, Mason was once again at the sharp end of the field in the first practice session.
Steadily improving his time throughout the session, he set his best lap of a 1m39.197s with a couple of minutes remaining. This put him fastest in GP2 and second overall at the end of the session.
Jamie was also at the top end of the timing sheets and would ultimately join Mason in the top five overall and place third in class courtesy of a 1m39.417s on the harder SC1 compound rear tyre.
The sun come out and temperatures rose considerably for second practice. Jamie was quick out of the blocks on his SC1 rear, setting the fastest time of the GP2 riders in the early part of the session with a 1m39.939s.
While others pitted for a new rear tyre towards the end of the session, Jamie decided to keep running on the same tyre and thus didn’t set his ultimate laptime in that session.
Even so, he still ranked a very solid fourth in class at the end of the session.
Mason was unable to improve on his personal best time from the morning session, but was setting consistently good times throughout the session and looking strong on the SP2.
His best lap of a 1m39.218s in that session was just pipped by Charlie Nesbitt for top GP2 honours, but confidence is high going into today.
Qualifying will get underway at 11:40, with the Sprint Race at 17:15 live on Eurosport 2.
