Second place for Law in closely fought Silverstone Sprint

Spirit Moto Corsa’s Mason Law finished the opening race at Silverstone just 0.6 seconds off the overall British Supersport/GP2 race win, claiming second place in the GP2 class.

In what was an extremely closely fought race on the National circuit, Mason crossed the line in sixth place overall just behind the leading Supersport pack and GP2 race winner Charlie Nesbitt.

After missing out on GP2 Pole Position by 0.018 seconds, Mason took the class lead on lap five of the 18-lap Sprint Race.

Mason led for five laps as he and Nesbitt matched each other’s pace, but Nesbitt managed to get back in front on lap ten.

Unfortunately, once Nesbitt retook the lead he was able to put a few Supersport bikes between him and Mason and eventually went on to finish second overall, despite being just half a second ahead!

Mason was followed home and joined on the podium by iForce Lloyd & Jones PR Racing’s Dan Jones, riding a customer Spirit bike.

The Welshmen put in some very fast lap times and will therefore start today’s Feature Race as top GP2 on the grid in third overall. Mason will start just ahead of Charlie Nesbitt on the second row of the grid.

Jamie Perrin was forced to sit out the action on Saturday after his crash in FP2. Thankfully, however, he has now been passed fit to ride and will be back on the bike for this morning’s Warm Up session.
